There was a lot on the line Thursday in the annual Turkey Bowl between four-time Class L champ New Canaan and two-time Class LL champ Darien. A win by Darien, No. 1 in the latest High School Football America Connecticut Top 10, would knock the Rams out-of-the-post season, ending their chance at a fifth straight state title.

But, when the smoke cleared at Boyle Stadium in Stamford, New Canaan kept its title hopes alive with a 27-0 upset of previously undefeated Darien, which ended the Blue Wave’s 34-game win streak.

It should be noted that Darien played without quarterback Jack Joyce and safety/receiver Brian Minicus, who were arrested and charged in connection with an assault Wednesday night.
