When Miami Central was beaten very easily by DeMatha (Maryland) in the Rockets’ season opener, many felt the team’s preseason #4 ranking was a bit lofty.  When the Rockets lost to Carol City 9-6 on October 3rd, many felt the Rockets champions run was over.

Saturday, Miami Central proved that rumors of their demise was premature as the Rockets beat Armwood (14-1) 48-13 to win the school’s fourth straight state title.  It was the third year in a row that the Rockets beat Armwood in the finals.

Central is the fourth Florida team to win four straight state football championships. That exclusive club includes Booker T. Washington, which joined it last week with its 4A title, along with Pahokee and North Florida Christian.

Central has now won five state titles in the last six years.
