Ankeny hires Northern Iowa assistant

Ankeny Hawks footballRick Nelson is the new head coach at Ankeny.  Nelson, who has spent most of his coaching career at the collegiate level, has been the offensive line coach at Northern Iowa since 2000.  Nelson told the Des Moines Register that he’s excited to coach with his son Nick, who’s an assistant coach at Ankeny.

In 2013, the Ankeny Community School District split into two schools — Ankeny and Ankeny Centennial.  The split occurred after Ankeny won the 2012 Iowa 4-A state title.
