After four state championships at Bentonville, Barry Lunney has retired as the head coach of the Tigers. Lunney led Bentonville to a 97-27 record with state titles in 2008, 2010, 2013 and 2014.
“Coach Lunney’s leadership established the Bentonville Tiger Football Program as one of the elite programs in Arkansas, and garnered attention as one of the premier high school programs in the country,” Bentonville athletic director Scott Passmore said in a press release. “Coach Lunney is recognized as one of the most successful high school football coaches in Arkansas. He is a man of great character, high standards, compassion, and dedication to preparing the young men on his teams not only for success on Friday nights, but also for success in life. Coach Lunney’s retirement is a loss for Bentonville Public School District, his coaches and players, but a well-deserved win for him as he closes out an outstanding career.”
Overall Lunney won eight Arkansas state football titles with a 248-90-1 during a 28 year career. Lunney led Southside to state titles in 1991, 1992, 1997 and 2002.
