Mr. Fisher,

I am a big supporter of your HSFB ranking system. Do you feel that your algorithm is more accurate than Calpreps? What are some of the weaknesses in the Calpreps program? How complex was it to create an algorithm for ranking 100+ football teams?

First, thanks enjoying our work. As you can imagine, there's nothing easy about creating an algorithm and I salute CalPreps for what they have been doing for years. Since I'm not sure what goes into their computer rankings, I can't really answer the question about their strengths and weaknesses.

That being said, I think our strength is that we are constantly evaluating and improving what we've been doing with our rankings since 2013. I believe that another strength is the fact that we recognize that not all states are created equal within our algorithm.

I guess the best way to answer your question is that I view our algorithm/rankings as a living breathing entity that will always evolve for the enjoyment of the fans.

And, on a funny note, you have to have a thick skin to put out rankings for all the world to criticize...LOL

Jeff

^^

Been telling people the same thing about CalPreps. Not all states are created equal. State scaling is, for the most part, a guess by the creator.

It does create a higher (sometimes inaccurate and unfair) ceiling for some states. But its the nature of computer rankings...

It's not an exact science, for sure.
