Defending state champs open season in Hawaii with wins

Defending Open Division champ Saint Louis opened the 2017 season with a 49-7 win over Waianae Saturday in a rematch of last year’s state semifinals.  The Crusaders’ defense was rock solid, holding Waianae to minus-30 yards rushing and 14 yards in total offense.

Lahainaluna, the state’s defending Division II champs, beat Pearl City 20-7 in its season opener.  The Lunas scored 20 unanswered points after falling behind 7-0 in the first quarter.

Kaikea Consales rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown to lead Pac-Five to a 27-6 win against McKinley.

Damien opened with a 42-7 win over Castle.  Midway through the second quarter, Damien trailed 7-6.
