As we mentioned last week, the final five weeks of the regular season will be extremely interesting in the High School Football America Top 20 with all seven Avocado League teams ranked and playing each other.

This past weekend saw former No. 5 San Marcos lose to Torrey Pines 38-21, which sends the Falcons up five spots to No. 7 this week.  It was the first loss of the year for San Marcos, which drops to No. 8 and plays No. 9 Carlsbad this week.  Torrey Pines hosts No. 19 Oceanside this week.

Torrey Pines’ victory leaves top-ranked Mission Hills and La Costa Canyon as the only remaining undefeated teams left in the league.  And, after this weekend, there will be only one as the Grizzlies will travel to LCC on Friday.

Both teams are 6-0 overall. Mission Hills’ defense has been outstanding, only allowing 38 points in six games.  The Mavericks have also been good defensively. LCC has given-up 69 points this season, but 42 of those have come in the last two games against Carlsbad and No. 10 El Camino.

In the Western League, first place will be up-for-grabs when No. 3 Madison hosts No. 12 St. Augustine.  The Warhawks are coming-off an impressive win over Cathedral Catholic, which drops the Dons two spots to No. 13 this week.  St. Augustine climbs three spots this week after beating former No. 13 Point Loma 53-34, which drops the Pointers to No. 14 this week.

In the Metro Mesa League, No. 15 Eastlake faces No. 20 Mater Dei.

New to the rankings this week is Valley Center at No. 18.
