With clean-up from Hurricane Harvey continuing, this will mark the first full weekend of football across the state.  Seven of the teams in the High School Football America Texas Top 25 have yet to play a football game and all have dropped from their preseason rankings because of cancelled games that brought-down each team’s strength of schedule.

For example, No. 3 Katy, which is also ranked No. 26 in High School Football America Top 100 national rankings, didn’t get to play No. 10 Westlake and No. 13 Klein Collins, both of whom are ranked in the Top 100.

Katy opens this week against No. 9 The Woodlands.  The Highlanders, who lost to Lake Travis in the 2016 Class 6A Division I championship, are currently ranked No. 60 in the nation.

Speaking of Lake Travis, the Cavaliers last minute 34-31 win over former No. 5 Cibolo Steele moves them up three spots in our latest statewide rankings that are created with our proprietary algorithm.  Steele drops to No. 8.

Like Katy and The Woodlands, No. 12 Houston Lamar and No. 13 Klein Colllins jump into 2016 against each other on Thursday night.  Also in the Houston-area, No. 15 North Shore opens against No. 22 Westfield.

Mansfield, fresh off its win over nationally-ranked Cedar Hill (No. 54 at game time), moves into the Top 25 at No. 14 and into the national rankings at No. 92.  There are currently 15 Texas teams in our Top 100.
