The Cobb County School Board has approved a new turf field for Lassiter High School that will carry the name of the late Philip Lutzenkirchen, who was a star at the school before going-on to become an All-SEC tight end at Auburn.  Lutzenkirchen was killed in June 2014 in a one-car crash in which both he and the driver were declared legally drunk.

Since Lutzenkirchen’s death, his father Mike has traveled the southeast talking to kids about making smart decisions.

The family also established the Lutzie 43 Foundation, which will fund the entire cost of the new turf field at Lassiter, according to al.com.

The new field at Frank Filmann Stadium will be known as “Lutzie 43 Field”.
