Iowa high school football player awarded nearly $1M for head injury

juryAn Iowa jury has awarded $990,000 to Kacey Strough, a high school football who suffered a serious head injury at a 2012 practice. 

Strough, who was a member of the Bedford High School football team, and his family sued the school district and a school nurse.  According to The Des Moines Register, Strough had a pre-existing condition known as “cavernous malformation” or abnormally formed blood vessels in his brain.  The story states that Strough’s brain bled after he suffered an injury, but he was allowed to keep practicing.
