The nation’s longest active 11-man win streak came to an end Friday when Ithaca lost to St. Mary Catholic Central 22-12 in the Michigan Division 6 championship game.  The loss ended Ithaca’s 69 game win streak that began back in 2009.  It also left the Yellowjackets three short of the state record of 72 straight win held by Hudson High School.

Ithaca head coach Terry Hessbrook said this to the Detroit Free Press after the game, “We’ve had maybe more talented teams, I’m going to be honest and that’s no knock on this football team. But I’ve never coached a football team that has more heart or shown more resiliency and that’s going to back to the teams we’ve had the last four or five years.”

Now the nation’s longest active win steak belongs to Bellevue (Washington).  The Wolverines, ranked #9 in the High School Football America final regular season Top 25, have won 67 straight.
