It’s time to decide who’s #1 on the field!

St. John Bosco and Corona Centennial have spent about the same amount of time on-top of the High School Football America/SoCal Top 25 this season.  Corona Centennial began the season ranked #1, but the Huskies were passed midway through the season by Bosco, which owns a stronger Strength of Schedule in our proprietary algorithm that is used to create the rankings.

Now, on Saturday night at Angel Stadium, the two SoCal heavyweights will meet for the second straight year for the CIF-Southern Section Pac-5 championship.  Corona Centennial won last year’s battle 48-41.

Aside from the section championship, also at-stake is a trip to the CIF Open Division championship game against, more than likely, De La Salle.

Aside from the Bosco/Centennial game, there are several other big sectional championship games that will shape next week’s rankings.

In the West Valley Division, #3 Mission Viejo will travel to #7 Vista Murrieta.  These two met last year, with MV coming-out on top.  Vista Murrieta moved-up four spots this week after beating former #10 Rancho Cucamonga 62-56 in five overtimes on Friday.

In the Southwest Division finale, #12 La Habra will host #25 San Clemente.  The Highlanders only loss this year was by ten points to Mission Viejo back on September 11th.

The other sectional championship featuring two Top 25 teams will be at Camarillo where the Scorpions, #13 this week, will face #24 Thousand Oaks, which broke into the Top 25 this week after beating #22 Arroyo Grande in Friday’s semifinals.  This game is a rematch from October 30th when Camarillo beat the Lancers 49-45 to win the Camino League championship.  The Scorpions had to come-from-behind to win it with 1:15 remaining when Jake Constantine threw a touchdown pass.
