Los Al‘s John Barnes enters the 2014 season with a lifetime record of 310-105-10 and shows no signs of slowing down.  When I met him Monday to tape High School Football America’s video preview (above) with him, he wanted to know how long the interview would take, because he said, “I’m a  hands-on coach.”  FYI…I got him back to his boys in three minutes.

As he enters his 36th year as the head of the Griffins, Barnes is ready for the road that lies ahead during the 2014 Sunset League season. There is definitely talent on both sides of the ball from a team that went 9-3 last year and advanced to the second round CIF-SS Southwest Division playoffs last year.

In our preview, Barnes discusses several kids that he believes will have an impact this year as the Griffins move into the CIF-SS West Valley Division (Division II)  that is loaded with big teams from the South Coast, Baseline and Southwestern Leagues. The California Hall of Fame coach has had success at many levels, winning championships in Division I in 2002, Division II in 1992 and 1993 and Division III in 1991.

Los Al opens the season on the road on September 5th against Paramount.
