With four weeks to go until we crown our 2018 “mythical” national champ, the 2017 champs are closing in on defending their crown. Friday night, Mater Dei (California) beat former No. 1 St. John Bosco, which propels the Monarchs back to the No. 1 spot, which is the ranking they held until losing to Bosco in mid-October.

The latest High School Football America 100 national rankings see a lot of shuffling.

Three Top 25 teams lost — No. 14 Mallard Creek (North Carolina), No. 17 Bergen Catholic and No. 21 Grayson.

There are five new teams this week — newly crowned Illinois Class 8A champ Loyola Academy at No. 93, Hough (North Carolina) at No. 96, Lowndes (Georgia) at No. 97, Michigan Division 1 champ Chippewa Valley at No. 98 and Northwestern (Miami, Florida) at No. 100.
