Mendota (CA) head coach arrested on insurance fraud charges

Earlier this year, Mendota High School (California) head football coach Beto Mejia and his team made national news with a heartwarming story that aired on ESPN. Today, Mejia is making headlines again after being arrested on charges of insurance fraud.

According to ABC 30, Mejia was arrested Wednesday along with a former player. The Mendota Unified School District issued a news release that said they don’t believe any other employees are students are involved.

Mejia has been placed on administrative leave and assistant coaches will take over the team that is 2-1 going into Friday night’s game against Yosemite.
