Who will win the High School Football America “mythical” national championship?  The questions may be answered this week, even before the calendar turns to October.

On Friday night, #1 Bishop Gorman (Nevada) will take-on #10 St. Thomas Aquinas (Florida).  It will be the Gaels final non-league test before closing-out its season with what will probably be an eighth straight Nevada state football championship.  Gorman’s only challenge in-state may come from Liberty.

On the East Coast Friday, #4 DeMatha (Maryland) will make its claim for a national title when it squares-off with #9 St. John’s College High School (Washington, D.C.).  SJC is battle-tested, having played four of its first five games against teams that began the year ranked in the High School Football America Preseason Top 25.  The Cadets are coming-off an impressive 39-22 win over former #22 Good Counsel (Maryland).  DeMatha is looking for its fourth straight Washington Catholic Athletic Conference title.

Re-entering the Top 25 are Lake Travis (Texas) and Cibolo Steele at #21 and #22 respectively.  LT began the season ranked #21, while Cibolo Steele was ranked #9.  Earlier this year, Lake Travis beat Steele 59-56 in a double overtime thriller.

Dropping-out this week are former #20 Judson (Texas), which lost to Cibolo Steele and Good Counsel.
