Six new teams enter the High School Football America Top 100

High School Football America 100

It was a fairly calm week in the High School Football America 100 with six new teams entering the national rankings this week.

At the top, Mater Dei (California) remains a solid No. 1 choice after handing former No. 10 Bishop Gorman (Nevada) its first shutout loss in a dozen years. The Monarchs rebounded after hearing in the middle of the week that they had to forfeit their opening week win after using an ineligible player.

While the Monarchs officially own a 1-1 record, the loss isn’t counted against them in our algorithm, because the ineligible player didn’t affect the outcome on the field. For those of you not familiar with our national rankings, we use a proprietary algorithm to rank teams nationally, regionally and on a statewide basis.

Aside from Gorman, Hewitt-Trussville (Alabama) was the highest ranked team to lose. The Huskies, who fall from No. 28 last week to No. 75, lost to previously unranked Cedar Grove (Georgia), which enters the rankings at No. 73 after its win on national television.

Cedar Grove is one of six new teams in the HSFA 100 this week.

Carol City (Florida) jumps from No. 127 to No. 60 after knocking-off former No. 53 American Heritage (Plantation, Florida), which snapped the two-time defending state champs 28 game win streak. Also joining the national rankings are: Broken Arrow (Oklahoma) at No. 74, Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) at No. 88, Booker T. Washington (Miami, Florida) at No. 92 and Pittsburgh Central Catholic (Pennsylvania) at No. 93.

Last week, there were twelve head-to-head matchups in the Top 100. This week there are 13 games within the HSFA 100, including two in the Top 10. No. 5 Grayson (Georgia) will host No. 8 Bergen Catholic (New Jersey), while No. 6 Hoover hosts No. 9 St. John’s College High School (Washington, D.C.).

Here are the other intra-Top 100 games: #11 St. Joseph’s Prep (Pennsylvania) plays No. 14 St. Frances Academy (Maryland), No. 12 Miami Central (Florida) plays its annual Miami showdown with No. 92 Booker T.
