Many are expecting big things out of Spartanburg this year, and why not, with quarterback Austin Scott back at the helm of the defending South Carolina Class 4A Division II champs.

Over the weekend, Scott and his teammates advanced to the National Select 7 on 7 Championships next month in Hoover, Alabama with a 32-28 win over Valdosta from Georgia in the event’s South Carolina qualifier.  This year’s championships will be held July 16-18.

According to GoUpstate.com, Scott, who passed for over 4,400 yards last year and 52 touchdowns, had a great tournament completing 144 of 229 passes with 42 touchdowns and only four interceptions.

Spartanburg head coach Chris Miller said this about the two-day event –  “The way we won it was good. We came out and played real hard and continued to get better and better each game. It was big that the kids are living those game-type situations and being able to work together offensively and defensively to come out on top.”

MaxPreps.com has Spartanburg ranked #18 in its Preseason Early Contenders Poll.
