And then there are three. Only three states — California, Georgia and Texas — are still playing football, and the only reason the Peachtree State is still playing is because of a rare snowfall across the south led to the postponement of six of the eight state title games until next weekend.

After a week off, No. 1 Mater Dei can wrap-up our “mythical” national championship on Saturday when it plays No. 11 De La Salle in California’s Open Division championship game.

No. 20 Pine-Richland’s defeat of former No. 7 St. Joseph’s Prep for Pennsylvania 6A title shuffles the deck near the top of the rankings that are created with our proprietary algorithm.  The Rams move from No. 20 to No. 15, while the Hawks tumble to No. 23 this week.

It’s been a great year for Pennsylvania high school football teams as joining the Rams and Hawks in the Top 25 are 5A champ Archbishop Wood at No. 24 and 4A champ Erie Cathedral Prep at No. 25.

Venice cracks the Top 25 at No. 21 after winning Florida’s 7A title.  The Indians only loss this year was to No. 2 IMG Academy (Florida).

Florida is tied with Pennsylvania with four teams in the Top 25.  California and Texas have three teams each.

Two Louisiana state champs enter the rankings this week.  Catholic (Baton Rouge) upset former No. 24 John Curtis for the Division I championship.  The Bears break into the rankings at No. 77, right in front of John Curtis at No. 78.  4A champ Edna Karr breaks into the Top 100 at No. 95.
