Zaevion Dobson, a 15-year old Fulton High School football player, was killed Thursday night, according to police officials in Knoxville.

According to Knoxville Police Chief David Rausch, Dobson was killed while trying to protect three girls who were in danger of being shot after several men began randomly firing shots near his home.  According to police reports, Dobson jumped on top of three girls to protect them from the gunfire.  Dobson, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was the only one hit.

Fulton football coach Rob Black described Dobson as a fine young man to WBIR-TV.

“Only a sophomore, but a very contagious young man who was very liked by his peers and his teachers,” Black said. “Going to be a tough time as we leave from here and go meet with our football players.”
