The weekend is always better after a win on Friday night.

The sun is a little brighter on Saturday morning.  Your food tastes better.  Film is much more fun to watch. It’s just a feeling you cannot describe unless you are a football coach.  Winning is the greatest feeling in the world.

With our 24-14 win over Estacado the other night, I saw a Westerner team that continues to get better each and every week.  Since our opening night loss to Sweetwater, we have gotten better each time out.  That is progress.  You want to see your team progress over the course of the season.  We have.  In fact, I think the past four weeks we have played the best football we ever have.  We are stringing together some good games.  Friday night it finally showed up in the win column.

The kids did a great job executing.  My coaching staff put together a heck of plan. It all came together for us.

A Friday night win goes a long way for the health of your soul!  More of it is to come for the Westerners.

A PLAYER
Dae Dae Morgan has quickly become one of the best players I have ever coached. He is our signal caller and he is our heartbeat. He energizes everyone around him. He is a lot of fun to watch.

Right now, Dae Dae is on pace for 2,000 yards passing. He will probably end up with over 500 yards rushing, too.  All this while playing on a bad foot.  He is becoming dynamic.  He has mastered the system.

Keep your eyes on #20. You will hear a lot about him in the next few weeks.

SOME HIGHLIGHTS
*6’5 wide receiver Jacob Bayouth caught the first TD pass of his career on Friday night.  He has emerged as one one of the top targets in the area.
*DE Tyree Johnson almost scooped and scored a touchdown on Friday night. It was a big play and set up one of our TD’s in our big second quarter.
*K Logan Huber made a TD saving tackle on the last play of the first half following a kickoff.  Big tackle for us!
*The defense played one heck of a game.  Maybe the best defensive game we have played since 2012. We were in control. The kids made some great plays.
*We amassed 25 first downs on offense.  That is four straight weeks of 20+ first downs.  We need that.  It is one of our focuses every single game.

RANDOMNESS
-People. Aren’t they odd? Sometimes they are a confounding mess. Keep your priorities straight.
-The Yankess will win the Wild Card. Hopefully David Cone or Ron Guidry gets the nod on the mound for their WC game.  If not, forget it.
-A football ref was ejected in a college game this weekend for throwing a punch at a coach.  More odd behavior from human beings.
-Football season is here, in case anyone has forgotten.
-Oregon got thumped.  TCU narrowly escaped TTU.  Auburn is in some serious trouble.
Neal Tull did a great job calling plays the other night.  Derek Mauldin is an excellent wide receiver coach.
-DC Nate Jeohcott put together a great game plan for Estacado.
Justin Wieller still has no tricep definition.
-I bought an English Bulldog.  His name is Yogi.
-Jeff Fisher is my idol.
-AD Jennifer Roland is a very nice human being.

That’s it. It was FIO’ed last week.

FIO.
