Top 100 welcomes four new teams

top 100

Gonzaga’s (Washington, D.C.) upset of former No. 15 DeMatha (Maryland) has a big effect on the latest High School Football America Top 100.

First, the win brings the Eagles into the national rankings developed with our proprietary algorithm at No. 90. Second, Gonzaga drags Viera (Florida) into the rankings at No. 89.  Viera is the only team to defeat Gonzaga this season — 21-6 on September 1.  Viera’s only loss was in overtime to Cocoa (Florida), which climbs three spots this week to No. 32.  Third, DeMatha tumbles 23 spots to No. 38.

Gonzaga and Viera are two of four new teams in the national rankings.

Pope John XXIII (New Jersey) enters at No. 98 after beating former No. 52 Paramus Catholic (New Jersey).  This week the Lions will try to continue climbing when they face No. 46 St. Joseph Regional (Montvale, New Jersey).

The fourth new team is Cardinal Gibbons (Florida), which is at No. 99 and will be able to improve that ranking with a win over No. 10 American Heritage (Plantation, Florida) this weekend.

The two aforementioned Top 100 match-ups are one of seven match-ups this weekend featuring Top 100 teams.  The others are: No. 1 Mater Dei (California) vs. No. 15 St. John Bosco (California), No. 4 Grayson (Georgia) vs. No. 95 Archer (Georgia), No. 25 St. Peter’s Prep (New Jersey) vs. No. 40 Bergen Catholic (New Jersey), No. 36 Lake Travis (Texas) vs. No. 61 Westlake (Texas) and No. 45 Northwestern (Miami, Florida) vs. No. 85 Carol City (Florida).

The addition of Cardinal Gibbons and Viera gives Florida thirteen teams in the Top 100. Texas leads the way with fourteen teams.
