Friday night the #1 and #3 teams in our Top 25 proved they are worthy of the lofty ranking, while preseason #2 Hoover has gone from a 30 game win streak to a two game losing streak.

Allen won the battle of two-time defending champs with a 55-41 win over Denton Guyer in the Tom Landry Classic. The top-ranked Eagles were led by QB Kyler Murray, who threw for three scores and ran for three as the Eagles’ began their quest for a third straight Texas state title.

In Florida, St. Thomas Aquinas stormed-out to a 38-0 lead and a running clock by late in the third quarter in a 38-7 win over #11 American Heritage that was coming off an impressive win over defending 7A champ Dwyer on Sunday before a national television audience.

Hoover (Alabama) traveled to Georgia to face its former head coach, Rush Probst, who is now the head coach at Colquitt County.  The Bucs dropped to 0-2 with a 35-14 loss.

Out west, #8 Bishop Gorman (Nevada) looked very impressive in a 48-27 win over #22 Servite (California). The Gaels were locked in a tight battle in the first half when sophomore Tate Martell came-off the bench to throw three touchdown passes.

Saturday saw Florida powers #7 Booker T. Washington and #14 Miami Central take road victories of Georgia schools.

The weekend closed-out in Chicago with #10 St. Joseph’s Prep from Philadelphia edging Chicago-power Mount Carmel 28-27
