The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association has decided to seed the 2018 high school football playoffs with a committee. According to the Seattle Times, this one year test could be the first step to the state implementing a Rating Percentage Index (RPI) for the 16 team field.

The WIAA has been using an RPI for the state basketball tournament, but according to the Seattle Times story, coaches wanted more of a human touch to the seeding process. The actual processes used by the seeding committees will be determined over the summer.
