Waskom wins Texas Class 3A-II title, first in school history

Waskom captured its first Texas high school football championship Thursday with a 41-22 win over Newton in the Class 3A Division II championship game.

Waskom running back Kevin Johnson was the game’s offensive MVP with 106 yards rushing.  The state title completed a turnaround from 2009 when Waskom finished 0-10.

Newton, which was seeking its fourth state title, finishes the season 12-4.
