For the third time in school history, Center Grove will play for a state football title. The Trojans, ranked #13 in the High School Football America National Top 25, advanced to Lucas Oil Stadium with a 35-34 double overtime thriller against Avon in a game that had five lead changes and five ties.
Center Grove needed a field goal with 5.8 seconds to go in the game to force overtime. In the second overtime after Avon (10-3) scored to take a 34-27 lead, the Trojans closed the gap to 34-33 on a Titus McCoy touchdown run.
Center Grove (13-0) head coach Eric Moore then decided to go for two and the win. Once again, Moore gave the ball to McCoy, who scored the game-winning 2-point conversion.
McCoy finished the night with 183 yards on 32 carries and three touchdowns.
Center Grove, which won its only state title in 2008, will play Penn in two weeks for the 6A crown.
