Some of Wisconsin’s heavyweight high school football programs are waiting for the spring to play football, which is causing some scheduling nightmares. For instance, defending Division 1 champ Muskego is playing now, but Kimberly, which saw its 5-year reign atop the division at the hands of Warriors in 2019, is waiting until the spring.

In order to solve some of the scheduling headaches in the spring, four conferences are forming a 20-team league. It will be known as the Fox Valley Classic Football Conference and include teams from the Fox Valley Association, Wisconsin Valley Conference and both divisions of the Fox River Classic Conference.

The conference will be split into four groups and play a five-game regular season followed by a two-game playoff. Schools are grouped on enrollment and past success, while maintaining some traditional rivalries.

Below are the groupings:

Group A: Bay Port, Fond du Lac, Green Bay Preble, Neenah, Stevens Point

Group B: Appleton East, Appleton North, Ashwaubenon, Kimberly, Pulaski

Group C: Appleton West, De Pere, Green Bay Southwest, Manitowoc, Oshkosh West

Group D: Green Bay East, Green Bay West, Oshkosh North, Sheboygan North, Sheboygan South

After the regular season, top two teams each from Groups A and B will compete in a four-team playoff, while the top two teams each from Groups C and D will do the same. The playoffs are expected to start April 30 with the championship games set for May 7.

Spring practice is schedule to begin March 8 with the first games to be played March 26.
