Trinity captured its 26th overall Kentucky high school football with a 28-6 win over Male, the top-ranked team in the High School Football America Kentucky Top 10. During the regular season, Male, ranked No. 24 in the High School Football America 100 national rankings, beat the Shamrocks in double-overtime.

Trinity head coach Bob Beatty, the 2017 High School Football America National Coach of the Year, has now won 14 state titles in 20 years with the ‘Rocks.
In 5A, Covington Catholic beat Douglass 14-7 in a battle of unbeatens. The Colonels, who entered the game ranked No. 64 in our national rankings, has won two state titles in the last three years and is now 8-1 in state championship games. Douglass High was playing in its first state championship in only its third year of existence.

Johnson Central beat Boyle County 21-20 for the 4A state title. Both teams entered the game with undefeated records. Johnson Central now owns two over state championships.

For the fifth time in seven years, Belfry is a Kentucky high school football champ. Belfry beat Bell County 30-20 for the 3A state title.
The 2A title goes to Somerset with a 34-31 win over Mayfield. It was the school’s first-ever state football title. It came on the final play of the game.
