The 2021 Utah high school football playoffs began Friday with a majority of the favorites winning.

Defending 5A champ Orem came into the postseason on a three-game losing streak, which gave the Tigers the No. 22 seed. The drive for a fifth straight state championship began with a solid 42-22 defeat of No. 12 Brighton.

Next week, Orem gets No. 5 Provo

Another surprise in 5A was East’s 35-7 road victory over Cedar Valley. East entered the game as the No. 22 seed. Cedar Valley was the No. 11 seed.
