The Alabama Sports Writers Association made history Thursday when it named Saraland receiver Ryan Williams as Mr. Football for the 2022 season. He’s the first-ever sophomore to win the award.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound Williams led Saraland to its first-ever state championship last month and a No. 213 ranking in the final 2022 High School Football America 300, powered by NFL Play Football. The Alabama verbal commit caught 88 passes for 1,641 yards and 24 touchdowns. He also rushed 57 times for 700 yards and 15 touchdowns, plus threw a touchdown pass and had two punt returns for touchdowns.
