Connecticut is home to America’s oldest high school football game that is now played annually on Thanksgiving morning. New London and Norwich Free Academy have been battling since 1875.
On Thursday, in the 160th renewal of the rivalry, NFA beat its arch-rivals 27-8. Norwich Free Academy has now won three straight in the series, giving the Wildcats an 81-68-11 in the all-time series.
While the Norwich Free Academy/New London game is 147 years old, the game has only been played on Turkey Day since 2000.
Ansonia and Naugatuck is the second old rivalry in the state. On Thursday, Ansonia beat their rivals 18-10 to take a 77-35-10 lead in the series that began in 1900.
