On the field, Catholic (Baton Rouge) will be looking for another Division I championship. The Bears, who had to forfeit its 2017 and 2020 titles because of using an ineligible player, won the 2021 title to finish No. 35 in the High School Football America 100 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football.

Catholic was one of two teams from the state in our Top 100. 5A champ Zachary finished No. 63.

Zachary is expected to be highly-ranked in our 2022 preseason rankings, because of the return of quarterback Eli Holstein, who has given his verbal to Alabama. Last year, Holstein threw for 3,264 yards with 29 touchdowns with only six interceptions. He also rushed for 515 yards with 14 touchdowns.
