For the second time in three years, the Michigan High School Athletic Association is adjusting the dates for the state high school football championships at Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions.
According to MLive.com, the MHSAA will play this year’s championship games on November 28 and November 30, because Michigan State will play its Big 10 game against Maryland on Saturday, November 29. Originally, the Michigan high school football championships were set for the 28th and 29th.
In 2023, the MHSAA changed the high school championship dates for a Michigan State game in the NFL stadium.
When you add in the Lions’ traditional Thanksgiving Day game, Ford Field will host ten games over four days.
“We are excited to welcome Michigan State Football back into Ford Field for another Spartan season finale,” said Detroit Lions President and CEO, Rod Wood. “Thanksgiving and football have been a staple in Detroit for the past 91 years and this year will be a true celebration of the game at every level. It is an honor to connect all levels of the game by kicking off the weekend with the Lions and featuring the Big Ten and MHSAA State Championships throughout an amazing four days of football.”
