2202 Georgia high school football schedules – Class 7A

Georgia’s largest classification is loaded with talent from top-to-bottom. And, with the addition of 6A powers Buford, Carrollton, Valdosta and Westlake, AAAAAAA will be even better.

Last year’s 7A classification produced twelve teams that finished the year in the High School Football America 300 national rankings.

Below is a look at all of the 7A regions and their schedules from the Georgia High School Association.

Region 1

The region has a new look this year with the addition of Richmond Hill and Valdosta.

With Valdosta’s move from 6A into the region, the annual Winnersville Classic (October 7) against Lowndes will be for more than just city bragging rights.

Last year, Lowndes won the region with a perfect 3-0 record. The Vikings finished the season ranked No. 108 in the High School Football America national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football.

The south Georgia teams starts the season in an interesting way with three straight games against teams from Florida. The season opener will be against national power American Heritage (Plantation).

You can watch that game LIVE on FloFootball, one of over 50 televised high school football games produced by Prep Gridiron Logistics.

Valdosta is coming-off a 4-6 season under Shelton Felton, who enters his second season. The Wildcats weren’t eligible for the postseason last year after the GHSA handed barred the program for the use of ineligible players during the 2020 season.

The Valdosta defense will be led by senior EDGE rusher Gabriel Harris, who has given his verbal to the University of Georgia.

Colquitt County, our 2015 national champs, look to have talent to make noise in the region and on the national scene. Junior-to-be quarterback Neko Fann will led the offense. Last season, Fann threw for over 2,100 yards with 29 touchdowns with only five interceptions, according to his MaxPreps’ stats.

With three teams having the nickname Wildcats, look for a “wild” chase for the regional title.

Region 2

Carrollton, a 6A state semifinalist last year, and Westlake move into the region. Carrollton beat Westlake 37-32 in the 6A state quarterfinals in 2021.

Westlake’s non-region slate is a good one with 7A and 3A state champs Collins Hill and Cedar Grove. The Lions will also play a very talented North Cobb program in the season opener on August 19.

Keep your eye on 4-star cornerback Avieon Terrell, who has committed to Clemson.

Last year’s regional champ McEachern moves into Region 3.

Region 4

This six-team region is loaded with the addition of Archer, which finished No. 20 in our Georgia Top 25. Last year, playing one of the toughest schedules in the state, the Tigers finished 7-5, losing in the second round of the postseason.

Brookwood won the region last season with a perfect 4-0 mark. The Broncos advanced to the state quarterfinals last season, finishing No. 180 in the national rankings.

Look for another solid season for the Gwinnett County team with Dylan Lonergan at the helm of the offense. Lonergan is considered a 4-star prospect.

Lonergan threw for 3,392 yards and ran for 645 more. He tossed 32 TD’s against only three picks.

Highlighting Brookwood’s 2022 schedule is a trip to national power Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas in mid-September.

Grayson, after a 7-3 regular season, advanced to the state semis where they lost to eventual state champ Collins Hill. The Rams ended 2021 ranked No. 161 in the country.

Once again this year, the Rams will play a tough non-region schedule that features two games against South Carolina-powers Fort Dorchester and Spartanburg.

Senior safety Michael Daugherty has already given his verbal to LSU.

Region 5

Region 5 has a completely new look led by the additions of North Cobb and Walton.

North Cobb finished No. 64 in the national rankings last year. Walton finished the year No. 107 in the nation after advancing to the state semifinals.

4-star quarterback Malachi Singleton heads into his senior season for the Warriors. Singleton, who has given his verbal to Arkansas, threw for 21 touchdowns last year and ran for 22 others.

Kennesaw Mountain will be making its 7A debut after winning the program’s first-ever regional championship in 6A last year.

The only leftover in the region is Cherokee, which finished 5-6 last season after losing in the opening round of the postseason.

Region 8

Loaded may be an understatement for this region that includes defending 7A champ Collins Hill and three-time defending champ Buford. Add into the mix, Mill Creek and fans will be treated to some great regional showdowns.

All three teams were in our national rankings last year with Buford finishing No. 21, followed by Collins Hill at No. 26 and Mill Creek at No. 117.

Mill Creek features the state’s top-ranked college football recruit. Safety Caleb Downs is considered the best at the position in the nation. The 5-star recruit owns 34 college scholarship offers, according to 247Sports.

Buford will test itself against a powerful non-region schedule that includes teams from Alabama (Thompson), North Carolina (Mallard Creek) and Pennsylvania (Roman Catholic).

The battle against Thompson at the Freedom Bowl in Milton features two programs that have won three straight state titles in their respective states.

In addition to its September 30 battle against Buford, Collins Hill will play reigning Georgia 3A champ Cedar Grove.
