Led by John Stephens Jones, grandson of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, Highland Park advanced to the Texas Class 5A Division I state championship game by beating #24 Denton Ryan 31-24 in the state semifinals at AT&T Stadium.  Jones completed 15 of 25 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns in the victory that sends the Scots to the championship game in at the NFL stadium built under his grandfather’s direction.

Highland Park, led by legendary head coach Randy Allen, will be looking for its first state title when the Scots captured gold with future #1 NFL Draft Pick Matthew Stafford under center.
After Highland Park running back Jacob Urbanczyk went down with a broken collarbone in the first half, Paxton Alexander filled-in with  31 carries for 137 yards and two touchdowns, and he caught six passes for 68 yards and two scores.
Denton Ryan played most of the game without Oklahoma State-commit Spencer Sanders, who apparently injured his knee in the second quarter.
