Yes, Corona Centennial lost a lot of offensive talent from last year’s CIF Open Division runner-up team, but that wasn’t evident Saturday night as the Huskies opened the 2016 season with a 56-49 win over Arizona-power Chandler.

Making his first start for Corona Centennial (1-0), junior QB Tanner McKee led his team on a 98-yard game winning drive that ended with 52 second to go in the game.  According to The Press Enterprise’s Gametime, McKee capped the drive with a 4-yard touchdown drive and then the defense held Chandler to four straight incompletions.

Both teams totaled an incredible 778 yards in total offense.  McKee threw for 367 yards and two touchdowns, plus 94 yards rushing and four touchdowns.  Miles Reed ran for two scores with 291 yards on 31 carries.

Chandler (1-1) QB Jacob Conover tossed three TD passes and 479 yards.

Up next for Corona Centennial is #2 IMG Academy (Florida) in The Honor Bowl next Saturday.  Corona Centennial is currently ranked #27 in the High School Football America Top 50.
