High school football in Georgia arrives Wednesday night when the 33rd annual Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic kicks-off with a doubleheader at Kell High School. The four-day event with 11-games will culminate with a quadruple-header Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the Atlanta Falcons.

Seven teams in the Preseason High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football, will play their season openers.

On Friday, No. 86 Creekside will travel to Rome to take on the Wolves, who start No. 89. Rome received a scare earlier this week when a bus was involved in an accident Thursday after a scrimmage. 11 players were injured and then released from the hospital after the bus was struck by an alleged drunk driver. The bus turned on its side and then crashed into a pole.

Then, on Saturday, five ranked teams will be in action at Mercedes-Benz. The nightcap will be a head-to-head back between No. 105 Douglas County and No. 213 Cedar Grove, winners of eight state championships in the last eight years.

“I think if you look at the 11 games and 22 teams playing this year, you will see we worked hard to be as inclusive as possible,” said Corky Kell Executive Director I.J. Rosenberg, who is also the president of sports marketing company Score Atlanta. “It took three months to put this schedule together. We also have made a move into South Georgia as well as going back to the Northwest part of the state while getting teams from all over the Metro Atlanta area. And our finale in Mercedes-Benz Stadium between Cedar Grove and Douglas County may be one of the best ever in the 33 years of the Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic.”
