Everyone in Southern California was wondering what would happen when #4 St. John Bosco squared-off with #11 Mater Dei at Santa Ana Stadium Friday night. Both teams are talented, but Bosco had the edge on Mater Dei in the experience category, since the Monarchs were starting six sophomores on offense, plus a talented freshman quarterback named JT Daniels.
Experience won out as the Braves roared to a 42-0 lead in the third quarter that led to a running clock in the fourth quarter. The 42-21 win pushed Bosco’s record to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in league play. It was also the Braves’ 18th straight Trinity League victory.
Leading the way for St. John Bosco was senior running back Sean McGrew. The Washington verbal commit carried the ball 16 times for 214 yards with touchdowns runs of 81 and 56 yards.
Mater Dei is now 6-1 overall and 1-1 in league play.
