The 2024 high school football season is right around the corner. To kick-off our 20th anniversary of covering the sport, we release the Preseason High School Football America 1000, powered by NFL Play Football.
The HSFA 1000 is a state-by-state look at the best teams, in no particular order. On Friday, we’ll begin unveiling the Preseason HSFA 300 that is created with our proprietary algorithm that we’ve been using for our rankings since 2013.
Florida leads the way with 129 teams in the Top 1000. The Sunshine State is followed by Texas with 125 teams. California is in third place with 97 teams. Georgia and Ohio round-out the top five with 80 and 78 teams respectively.
Overall, 33 states, plus the District of Columbia are represented in our Preseason 1000.
Six of our last seven national champs come from Southern California’s Trinity League. Mater Dei is the reigning national champion. The Monarchs also won titles in 2017, 2018 and 2021. St. John Bosco won national crowns in 2019 and 2022.
The last non-Trinity League team to win the HSFA national title was IMG Academy (Florida) in 2020.
