Cardinal Hayes, located in the Bronx in New York City is still celebrating an outstanding 2023 season. In December, the Cardinals became the first NYC team to win a New York State Catholic High School Football Championship.

The state title led to Hayes being No. 109 in the final High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football. This year, the Cardinals begin the season ranked No. 93 in the HSFA 300 preseason rankings.

The man, who has led Cardinal Hayes for the last twenty years is CJ O’Neil. On today’s High School Football America Podcast, Coach O’Neil talks about how the tiny school battled big obstacles on the way to a state title.
