Defending 7A state champ Central (Phenix City) begins the season at No. 1 in the High School Football America Alabama Top 10 high school football rankings, powered by NFL Play Football. The Red Devils, who are ranked No. 21 in the HSFA 300 national rankings, opens with unranked Pinson Valley.
No. 2 Thompson, winners of four 7A titles in the last five years, will open on national television against Georgia-power Grayson, which was upset 20-19 in its season opener by Collins Hill (Georgia). Thompson is ranked No. 42 in the HSFA 300. Grayson started at No. 170.
