NorthWood senior kicker Dominic De Freitas is on a roll when it comes to 60-yard field goals. Friday night, De Freitas broke the Indiana state field goal record when he booted a 62-yarder against Concord.
The record-breaker came one week after he made 60-yarder in a game against Northridge.
De Freitas’ 62-yard field goal was one-yard longer than the previous state record held by Jerry Spicer of Hobart (in 1975) and Brian Robertson of Seymour (in 1999).
Kohls currently has De Freitas, who also plays soccer, ranked as the No. 5 kicker in America.
The national all-time record is 68-yards by Reno’s (Nevada) Dirk Borgognone, who set the record in 1985.
Borgognone went on to get tryouts with multiple NFL teams, but he was only on a Sunday roster for two games with the Green Bay Packers in 1995.
