Below, I talk with Evangel Christian Academy head football coach Denny Duron about the series that looks at the Shreveport, Louisiana school and its drive to return to its glory days. The eight episode series, that began earlier this month, spotlights the real-life challenges the players must overcome on-and-off the field in their quest for a 15th state championship title.
Aside from serving as the Eagles’ head coach, Duron is the chancellor of the school and the senior pastor at Shreveport Community Church.
Coach/Pastor Duron returned to the sidelines during COVID-19 in 2020 when ECA was struggling on-the-field with a very young team. In fact, that 2020 team was winless, a far fall from winning a national championship in 1999.
Through the years, ECA has produced over a dozen NFL players.
