The game of the year is finally here. Friday night, No. 1 Mater Dei will host No. 2 St. John Bosco for the Trinity League title and for the top spot in our California Top 25 and High School Football America 300 national rankings, both powered by NFL Play Football.

And, if we’ve learned anything over the last decade, Friday’s game may not be the last time that these two will meet in 2024.

Since 2016, Mater Dei and St. John Bosco have played twice in the same season, six times. And, it’s not always best to win the first one.

As you can see below, in 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2023, the winner of the first game, lost the rematch.

As far as the latest in our statewide rankings, De La Salle moves from No. 7 to No. 6 after beating former No. 21 San Ramon Valley. The loss drops SRV to No. 23.

At the bottom of the rankings, Leuzinger re-enters at No. 22 and St. Francis (Mountain View) makes its first appearance this year at No. 24.

In addition to the MD/SJB showdown, St. Francis will square-off with No. 25 St. Ignatius College Prep for first place in the West Catholic Athletic League.
