POSITION TITLE
Athletics – Varsity Head Football Coach

RESPONSIBLE TO:
Principal and Director of Athletics
RESPONSIBLE FOR:
Leading, coaching and teaching each participating football student-athletes to develop and achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in approved teaching field grades 9-12
Valid Georgia Teaching Certificate.
Experience:
Successful High School teaching and football coaching experience at the coordinator or head coaching level required.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach and coach techniques and skills needed to ensure a successful football program.
- Be a positive teacher, coach, role model and motivator.
- Counsel student-athletes about scholarships.
- Expose student-athletes to surrounding colleges/universities and recruitment opportunities.
- Monitor grades of student-athletes in football program(s) and coordinate tutoring opportunities when needed.
- Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
- Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.
- Adheres to a highly efficient and technically sound program of injury prevention and follow-up.
- Coordinate a practice schedule for the entire season.
- Meet with parents of all Football Teams
- Ability to communicate and work well with football student-athletes and parents, Booster Club, colleagues, administration, and the community.
- Develop a consistent and positive public communications procedure through the school and media to inform the parents and the general public about the football program.
- Monitor all football programs.
- Establishes performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition for football.
- Works with Athletic Director in scheduling interscholastic contests.
- Assist with selection of positive, competent coaches for levels involved in the football program, as needed.
- Recommends and submits a yearly budget and bids to order necessary equipment to the Athletic Director.
- Responsible for issuing and collecting equipment to/from athletes.
- Complete necessary paperwork for inventory, budgeting, records, etc.
- Assist football teams in making decisions, planning events and implementing plans.
- Attend all meetings as required.
- Evaluate officials and submit required reports.
- Perform other duties within the athletic department as assigned.

- Exhibits qualities of leadership and organization;
- Exhibits and uses sound judgment;
- Must be available to perform coaching responsibilities, games and practices outside of the teacher/contractual day;
- Knowledge of child growth and development;
- Knowledge of football and ability to teach skills in an acceptable manner;
- Understanding of and compliance with Marietta City Schools policies, procedures, and practices
- Understanding of and compliance with Georgia High School Athletic Association rules and regulations;
- Ability to communicate in verbal, non-verbal and written form;
- Ability to communicate and work well with football student-athletes and parents, Booster Club members, colleagues, administration, business partners, civic organizations, and the community;
- Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with coaches, Athletic Director and other school system administrators.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to
walk and stand. Occasionally the employee will sit and or run. The employee
will frequently bend or twist at the trunk while performing the duties of this job.
The employee will frequently squat, stoop, kneel, reach above the head, reach
forward and repeat the same hand motion many times while performing the duties of the job.
The specific vision requirements of the job include good depth perception and
occasionally being able to see objects/persons at a distance. While performing
the duties of the job, the employee frequently is required to hear conversation in
a quiet, as well as, noisy environment. The employee must be able to
communicate effectively with team members, assistants, officials, and parents.
