Southern California’s Mater Dei will be able to clinch its fifth High School Football America national championship against De La Salle, a team that owns twelve national titles from a variety of national rankings services.

The California Interscholastic Federation has announced that the two heavyweights will square-off for the state’s Open Division championship on Saturday, December 14 at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo.

Mater Dei, the winner of HSFA’s national crown in 2017, 2018, 2021 and 2023, is currently ranked No. 1 in the HSFA 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football. The Monarchs will also be seeking their fifth Open Division championship.

DLS, who won the first Open Division championship in 2015, is ranked No. 28 in America. The Spartans played in the first five Open Division finals, but haven’t played in the Open championship since 2019. They’ve finished runner-up in the last two Division 1-AA championship games.
