A couple of Indianapolis television stations are reporting that Larry “Bud” Wright has resigned as the head football coach at Sheridan High School, a tiny town outside of Indianapolis, but it wasn’t his idea.

The stations are reporting that Wright, the state’s all-time winningest head football coach, who turns 84 on December 13, was asked to resign or be fired.

In the WTHR story, it states that Wright was “accused of verbal abuse of a player. That lead to a one game suspension in 2024. Wright said that he was given an ultimatum: resign or be fired.”

During his 59-years as the school’s head coach, Sheridan has won nine state championships. Wright has a lifetime record of 463-219. He’s a member of the Indiana High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Wright’s son, Kevin, is returning as the head coach at Carmel.

High School Football America visited the small town 15 years ago when we were known as The High School Football Huddle.

Wright also was a guest on the HSFA Radio Show on November 3, 2011. You can listen to the interview below.
