Centennial surprised the entire state of Arizona with its 2024 Class 6A state championship. Saturday, at Arizona State’s Mountain American Stadium, the Coyotes beat nationally-ranked Mountain View 31-21 for the school’s eighth overall state title.

What makes this one different from the other seven state championships is Centennial, who started the year ranked No. 37 in the Preseason High School Football America 300, powered by NFL Play Football, started 0-4 and finished the regular season with a 3-7 record.

Junior quarterback Kainan Manna threw for 335 yards and two scores in the team’s fourth straight postseason win.

Mountain View entered the game ranked No. 196 in the HSF A300.
