For the first time since 2013, Vermilion Catholic is a Louisiana high school football state champ. The Eagles won the Division IV Select state championship beating Ouachita Christian, 33-21 Thursday at Caesars Superdome, home of the New Orleans Saints.

Louisiana’s all-time touchdown leader, quarterback Jonathan Dartez was outstanding, winning the game’s MVP. He carried the ball 47 times for 253 rushing yards and two touchdowns. He also added two touchdown passes, giving him 177 for his career.

The four-year starter closes out his senior season with 2,761 yards rushing with 44 touchdowns and 1,638 passing yards with 23 scores.
