Southlake Carroll will play for the Texas 6A Division II state championship next week thanks to a roughing the kicker penalty at the end of its state semifinal game against Longview.
SC, ranked No. 28 in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football, missed a 41-yard field goal with its game against the No. 83 Lobos tied at 17-all. However, a running into the kicker penalty gave the Dragons’ Gavin Strange at second chance from 36 yards out and three seconds to play. The second time was the charm for Strange and the Dragons.
Southlake Carroll will try for its ninth state championship next week at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. It will be the Dragons 11th overall state championship appearance and their first since 2020.
